So i was just wondering what gear you guys were using, (eg guitars, amps, effects and etc) and how you controll it all.
Ok, here we go (I am really a drummer with 10 years of classical piano training, who switched to guitars, I try to get sound out of any instrument I can get my hand on):
Currently my main acoustic is a Taylor 314, good pick up, decent guitar. A friend of mine, who is setting up his pro guitar shop (he used to make violins) is bulding me a guitar modelled after the Martin OM-28, it's an amazing instrument (the Martin) and the best guitar I've ever played, if you are visiting a local music store that has one in stock, try it out, it is a $2000 to $3000 instrument, easy, but worth every dollar, I just don't have that many dollars, but my friend is doing it for about $1200.
For cheapo guitars I've always loved Takamine, decent quality for around $200, I use them for every day messing around, don't care if my son jumps on it or tries to play it.
I've owned a Yamaha and it was just not my thing, awful quality.
For electircs:
My all purpose, favorite electric is one called PRS Soapbar SE, a guitar they made as part of their "cheapo line" in China until Gibson sued them for some sort of copyright infringement for one of their parts. That guitar is well balanced, awesome pick ups and plays absolutely astaundingly well.
I've owned both American and Mexican made Strats, I like them for the Strat sound, and I've heard by pick up replacement you can get them a lot more versatile (See Pumpkins, Billy Corgan always uses a modified Strat, I believe).
I got a Japanese reissue of the Fender Jaguar and it does the Surf sound just absolutely astaundingly, and it looks very cool, but it does not play very nicely, even if I've messed around as much as I know how, with the tuning and bridge (I am no expert, that's for sure). I'd like to get an original Jag oneof these days, but that's just a dream, I'd also love to get a PRS Custom 22 or 24.
I also ahve owned two Teles, one 1972 semi hollowbody reissue, don't have any feelings about that instrument either way, it was pretty good, a bit feedback prone and somehow never my favorite. Then I had actually a Squire Tele and was not impressed, but many of my favorite guitarists play either Teles or Jags so really they are great guitars.
(Graham Coxon from Blur is astaundingly good, the guy from Coldplay, not Chris Martin but the other one, his playing is really good, Radiohead, both Greenwood and O'Brian are pretty amazing, I like guys with creative use of effects and soundscapes, not the ones that can play scales at 300 miles a second, although I respect those guys and think what they do is amazing, just musically it hardly ever appeals to me).
I used to own an Ibatnez RGT-42 and it truly sounds exactly like 3 Doors Down, it's a one trick pony, does that trick very well, but it never gelled that well with me.
I've tried Parker Fly at a guitar store and I am very impressed, I've also heard that Tom guitars are amazing (used, for instance, in the theme song to Friends).
I think I've covered all my guitar usage to-date, my friend has an expensive Ibanez and swears by it, I don't have the model number and I like his sound a lot, but I'd recommend PRS Soapbar if anyone comes across a used one, you won't regret buying that thing. Daisy also makes a 12-string electric I really want, I know it's made for girls and it's hot pink but, heck, it sounds just awesome.
For effects and amps, I've used Boss gt-3, considering getting a gt-8 may be, some day, decent solid effects, the loop pedal is really cool. I've used Digitech effects, flanger, reverb, delay (I am a big delay fan, you can do a lot of little neat things with delay), a Whammy pedal was always one of my favorites.
For amps I've never used high end stuff, a Marshall, I believe it's MG1000, their low end digital effects one, and I have a similar one from Crate which I like a lot better, also an old Peavey. I'd like to get a higher end Crate amp I think or the Fender Hot Rod amps, heard good things about them.
Cheers
-B
Compared to that, I suck. All I've got is a Peavy rockmaster electric and a 40 watt martial crate amp and a boss DS1 footpedal that I need to by an adaptor too to really test it out as the batteries just get drained.
nice contrast.. and no you don't suck music master. We all had to start somewhere. Oh and unplug the guitar cable from the input of the DS 1when not in use,cuz its draining power once the input is plugged in. To poster 2 nice collection. Was never really a marshall fan but love the crate amps, Those some peaveys and the B52 LS100 are my favorites as far as solid state amps goes. THe PRS SE are nice guitars and yes i agree Daisy does make some very nice and very comfortable instruments to play that sound good as well. I like their Dark star electric from the rock candy series i believe. Not the best pickups but those can be changed easily lol. Ok so my gear .. I have all baritone guitars these days. An OLP liscened copy of the musicman baritone, A Michael Kelly Patriot Lo Boy Baritone, and a Washburn Wi44 i believe. All discontinued models now. for amps i use a Gallien- Krueger Backline 210 (yes abass amp but sounds awsome with baritone and guitars and has tons of gain in the "overdrive" Channel) and for effects i am using a rocktron bluethunder, whichonceagain they market as a bass FX processor but its is the rocktron Xpression with a distortion preamp section inplace of the Harmony/pitch shifting section. and my goal is to control this all with a behringer midi foot controller. I went this route because i wanted to use amp distortion with effects and be able to switch between them with one step of a pedal .. so i could go from clean with chorus and reverb to amp distortion with just reverb for example with out having to tap dance on the amp footswitch then the footswitch to change effects patch. However not the easiest and most blind friendly to set up on your own .. but i like the flexibility of it so ihavent given up yet.
What I like about the amps I use is that they both come with a 3-channel foot switch so you can assign a clean, distortion and effect, better than twiddling with knobs and trying to get it right with only two options.
I really like the idea of the big effects boards like the Boss GT series, but when I've tried to record with them I start realizing the effects are not "real" enough, they sound so synthesized, only good in certain cases.
Yeah true thats part of the reason i stepped up to a rack effects unit. The crate stuff is nice but the effects controls is a little limiting for waht i like but does sound good none the less . The problem remains finding an amp that has the distortion you want with effects you like i guess lol. The peavey viper series seems tempting as an all in one solution don't know how accessable it will be though. The behringer vampire series was pretty usuable but the peavey blows it and the line 6 stuff out of the water as far as i am concerned. Looking at a few of those small 5watt tube amps cuz well for recording at home and playing small gigs thats all you need as far as tube wattage goes Since cranking a 50 watts or 100 watts is out of the question in tose senarios .
I recently bought a takamine Tan 16c with the cool tube preamp! What an instrument! To better compliment it I bought the triax under the string pickup to get the sound off the top of the guitar. The 16c is usually $1800 or so and I picked it up brand new with the hard shell for $799 so couldn't complain. I also have a PRS mccarty hollow body II with the Piazo pickup. The one guitar that I have that never gets touched is an LP custom that's about 4 years old. I don't know i just never got on bored with the sound and I got it soo cheaply I've just hung on to it.
I stil have a fender Twin from 1974 well before my time but was given to me when I was younger and I'll never let that amp go. I also have a 16 channel Old school PV mixer with two powered 400 WT jbl Speakers.
I have skads of effects but don't use too many of them to be honest I like a clean creamy sound as I play a sort of greatful dead phish blues style if you would.
My bass is an Ibanez 6 string and I also have a 4 string acoustic electric with a fishment pickup that I recently listed on craiglist to get rid of it!
I have to agree with you on the Gibson LPs. I]ve tried them numrous times. My friend had one (may be he still does), and I just never liked the playing or the sound. That being said one of my fav guitarists plays LPs almost exclusively, but somehow he gets a better sound of it than I do (guy named Bernard Butler, played on Suede's first two albums and afer that either solo, which is a disaster because his voice makes Bob Dylan sound like a master singer, or with other artists and session player).
But you cancheck out songs like "the Wild Ones" by Suede or "We are the Pigs" or, best of them "Asphalt World" and you can see how this guy manages to make his guitar sound like 2 or 3 and totally fills up the space.
I wish I had any money to rid mr big dog daddy of his acoustic electric base, but not in this financial environment I could only offer him $100 which would not be fair. I have a Fender bass that, incidentally, I got for $100 but from a drunken college student, it was probably worth $250 or so, but I am no bass expert, only good enough to come up ith simple stuff to throw onto our recordings.
I]d very much like to try the Vox AC-30 amp, favorred by many of my fav musicians, but it is in the $1200 range, ish, so I do not expect to pick one up this year exactly, but I will in a year or two.
I might as well throw my drum stuff in if anyone]s interested. I played Tama for the longest time, especially good for heavy metal cover band, that I started out in. I had the Tama Artstar and it sounds great for that, but I find it not versatile enough. I got a Yama Stage Custom set and bought a 12 inch snare from Yamaha seprately. I tried out all the cymbals at the Guitar Center store I was at for picking outmy favs and, oddly ehoughh, all my favorite cymbals were from the Zabian B8 or B8 Pro (now discontinued) line. I play with both an 8 and 10 inch splash, two crashes and a China Boy, dug up 13 inch hi hats which I love over the standard 14 inch, they have a brighter sound that comes through cleaner in the mix.
I'd like a Sonar drum set one of these days but happy with my Yamaha and my Yamaha electronic kit as well, mostly for practicing and home recordings where I don't have to bother micking up the kit, but it's still a brilliant kit, very expressive.
Yeah never been much of a fan of the les paul stuff either personally. As for amps i have my eye on the blackstar ht 5 tube amp just to have something to get the kranked tube tone out of at home for recording .. maybe another tube pedal infront of it for the brutal metal tones if it can't quite get there on its own. As for basses i own a (no Name) Bridgecraft i believe the name is that you can find on ebay brand new for like $100 very nice and comfortable bass to play though it could stand for a pickup upgrade but like i said it was $100 brand new. Also own aSchecter Scorpion 35" Scale 4 string bass designed to be tuned like the lower 4 strings of a 5 string bass (B E A D).
Hi, all,
Figured I'd throw my two sense in here... So, here goes.
Guitars:
Gretsch Electromatic Solid Body
Gretsch electromatic corvette with Bigsbi Tailpeace
Court Hollow Boddy electric guitar
Schector Alete 5 Diamond Edition With Dule EMG active pickups
Pedal Board:
Boss BCB-60 (I'm probably going to build one of my own, because this one is to small...)
Pedals
Didgitech RP100A Multi effects unit
Didgitech RP250 Multi effects unit
Dunlop Crybaby 535Q Multi-Wah
Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer
Boss MT2 Metal Zone
Didgitech Hot Head Distortion
and I'm thinking about getting a Boss DD20 gigga delay in a little bit... We'll see though.
Amplafires
Crate V100H Head with matching 4X12 Cab
Fender FM112R
Fender FM212R
Crate BT220 Bass combo amp, with a fifteen inch sub
So, there you have it... I'm not goiing to mention the chords I have running around... lol.
Dude can I come Jam at your house? lol, I did like the crate V series tube stuff and the BT series bass stuff. Sucks that they discontinued them. I do hope to get my hands on the gretsch eletromatic Baritone guitar one day though. I am a new owner of the Traynor YCS 90, you guys should check out the specs on this one.
I'm wanting to get a bear toan guitar... How much do they run?
depends most inexpensive ones brand new are about $350 and up. the gretsch one is $450 i believe. I may be selling one of mine for around $300 if you are interested .. its the Michael Kelly Patriot lo-Boy.
I wouldn't mind knowing a bit more about them... I've google searched and crap like that, but I wouldn't mind seeing what it's like from a players perspective... any recordings I can check out to see how they sound? I know you can tune them much lower, I'm just curious to know how they sound... Also, can they go up to normal tuning?
Thanks,
Chris
they come tuned B to B or A to A and i think i had mine tuned down to G to G at one point. I don't believe i have any recordings with the one i am selling on line currently but my myspace music pages has recordings of other baritones as thats alli used. I believe these are alltuned down G to G has i haven't had a chance to update them since i have tuned up to C to C now. They can handle standard tuning but you willhave to putlighter strings on their and have it set up for the new tuning.
got a crate 120 wat amp pushing about 2 12 or 16 inch speakers, major overdrive distortion effects with it, pluss i've got a zoom effects processer as well. gotta fender strat electric, fender 12 string, and a hambnairus simmi acoostic. sorry about the misspelling, lol. I'm still having a hard time about how to get my effects processer to work the way i want it, so for the band it looks like i'll be using both my crate amp for guitar and my pv amp for keyboards until i can get my effects processer working right.
forgot to mention, the speakser are twin tubed speakers. this things got perfect sounds for clean tones and things. gotta volume for both clean and distortion, as well as a small built in effects processer.
I had an Ibanez 7 string guitar once, gotit for around $300. Found I had no use for it as that type of music simply does not fascinate me and I prefer distorted bass played high up (just check out Muse's title track to the Resistance for an excellent sample), it was high quality Ibanez though, great pick ups, good sound.
Want to get a 12-string electric, I know Dan Electro used to make one and I think Schechter got a pretty decent one, awesome sound.
I also triedout a Parker the other day, absolutely amazing guitars, though you ideally need 2 grand to buy a good one, their P series though is great, Korean made, I think and just around the $1000 mark.
Wildbrew, I know that trappt uses a seven string for their songs.
Hey Zack which zoom processor do you have? I am thinking of getting their G9.2tt unit in a few weeks myself. And i do like those crate amps that you got. And to the following poster, tThe ibanez 7 Strings are great stuff but i have since opted to play baritone guitars instead of 7 strings. And if it weren't for korean made guitars i don't know what i would do. Pretty much american made quality for import prices Can't complain about that.
i'm not sure what mottle of zoom processer I have, but I do know its a good one. I took it to practice with me this past thursday night and ran it through my keyboard amp and it sounded ok but it didn't bring out that nice sounding stuff you would get out of a regular guitar amp if you know what I mean. so it looks like i'll be useing my crate amp and may have to go and buy a destortion pettle or something I don't know
My PRS Soapbar SE is mae in China, but with superb workmanship and definitely much more than half the quality of an American made PRS for a tenth of the price. I think the Korean and China made guitars can go either way and I think they used to be really bad, but they've definitely learnt their guitar building over there. I also had a Japanese reissue of a Fender Jaguar, awesome instrument.
I was very happy with my Boss GT-3 multi effects board, they are up to gt-10 now but I am wrried it'll be a lot more touch screen and a lot less accessible. My friend had a GT-6 and the only really big difference was that his had a 10 second loops pedal, and it can be really cool to loop and sample your own guitar, run it through effects and then play over it.
But best distortion, I find, comes from the amp itself, no distortion pedal I've owned maanages to beat my Crate or Marshall built-in distortion, so I use more of a whammy, digital delay and cray baby effects pedals in the effect loop.
Just bought an Ibanez sound gear sr505. 5 stringer on friday and it's nice!!!
Also on the idea of Chinese guitars picked up a LP custom for a tenth of the cost and it plays like a dream.
I've been considering grabbing a PRS from there to see what it sounds like.
Hi all,
Just figurd I'd give an update on this beautiful piece of equipment I have aquired...
Peavey 6505+! This thing is fucking sweet. I'm selling my crate V100H Head if anyone's interested in buying it. I got the peavey for $600, which isn't bad, considering I would have to pay $1100 for it brand new. It's 120 wotts all tube, and the distortion on it is excelent. Also, can anyone explain to me how an effects loop works? I'm lost on that one...
Thanks!
Chris
Well, how bout we all update our gear lists shal we?
Mine's below...
Guitar:
Jackson DR7
Pedal board:
from right to left, I have,
Dunlop 535 Q Multi-wha,
Ibanez TS9 tube screamer,
MXR Metal distortion, (for sale for $70 if anyone wants it,
Digitech Whammy,
Boss DD20 gigga delay
Amp:
Peavey 5150 2X12 combo
Software:
Sonar 8.5 producer
well, my list still remains the same, fender strat electric, fender 12 string, ibanaz acoostic, however, I also have an escabon acoostic as well
In april I picked up a martin dc16rgte with aura pick up! A great acoustic electric instrument. Got it for about the cost of a used cheapy because it had a crack in the face, one which affects the looks but not the sound. I took it to my favorite guitar top and he told me to let it stand as is as it plays perfect, and changing out the top could of course alter the sound.
The SE PRS guitars are made in Korea and not china. Korean and Japaneese made instrument give the american made instruments a run for their money, korean's generally being less expensive than the japaneese ones. Indonesian and chineese made are usually the stuff you may want to avoid. I say this as i am getting ready to head out the door to pick up a line 6 variax 300 which i believe is the indonesian made one in the line. Currently have a PRS SE Mike Mushok signature baritone, an AGile baritone that has 2 active humbuckers and a passive single coil in the middle and a washburn baritone that is one of the most comfortable guitar i have ever strapped on. Also have an acoustic electric baritone as well and a line 6 pod x3. decided to get that and for go the amp as its all i need to record and sounds "close enough" to all the real stuff they model. Tha'ts waht lead me to pick up the variax 300 guitar if it sounds and plays as well as the pod the above mentioned guitars will be for sale. So let me know if any of you guys are interested in any of those guitars.
hi all,
Ok love this thread. My gear is somewhat limited since I travel a lot and so don't really have a lot of room in suitcases/storage facilities for loads of stuff, so:
Faith acoustic saturn Eclipse, british solid body acoustic guitar which basically kills anything else I've ever played, its been gigging and home jamming and all sorts and it doesn't dissapoint. A gretch hollow body...can't recall model, 500 something series lol.
A roland cube 60 amp which is kind of cool but shrug, again, small and with enough bang for what it is pricewise. Also a spanish made classical guitar I picked up for some 300 euro or so in that country.
And my fender mexican strat. To be honest I've played american strats and mexmade strats and I really am not seeing that much of a difference, so 2008 issue mexican strat with fender humbuckers in it makes for some good sounds.
MJ
Hi all, Regarding post 8, I saw a sonar drum set on craigslist for $8000. Why so pricy? Does it sound That good? As for guitar, (which I don't play very much, I have a fender strat (I think) I got it a couple of years back, when I still played guitar. I use an old Peavey amp (not sure the model number), and I play a dt55 electronic drum set from yamaha.
Hi zack, this shouldn't realy be in this thread, but what keyboard do you use? To DJcris, You should also add your screen reader for sonar. Lol, just kidding.
Matthew
My gear and instrument arsonal is always changing, but, at the moment, I have the following: Line 6 Bogner co-designed all tube 1x12 40w combo, MKII shortboard floor controller, Avid/Digi eleven rack guitar preamp, Composite Acoustics Legacy all graphite acoustic electric, Takamine EF341SC acoustic electric with cedar top and maple back and sides, Burney solid top 1980s les paul, outfitted with all Gibson hardware and pickups, Kona hollow body jazz guitar, alvarez classical with solid western cedar top, solid rosewood back and sides, active electronics, and cutaway, and, an Ibanez SR505 bk bass with active bartelini electronics. (No bass amp at present as I record direct for now.) If anyone is interested, I'm looking to sell everything except for the Takamine, so get in touch if interested. I have my eye on some instruments I must have and need the cash.
I wish NI stuff was accessible. Guitar Rig is Freaking awesome. It's the perfect plce to find perfect guitar emulations that that kick Motif xs butt.
guitar rig four is pretty good, as long as you use the correct front end, like a dedicated instrument input on an audio interface. Or, the new guitar specific interfaces. there is a way in sonar to get to the banks/patches in guitar rig four, but, that's it. we can't access the actual interface as the gui is totally bit mapped. sadly, that is the case for all of the NI and east west products. It's a shame because they have some truly amazing libraries!
I play a washburn thats the Gibson Sg style i got a grate deal on it from where i was takeing lesons it was 600 but got it for 400. I have another washburn thats the fender strat style but i don't play it at all since i got the one i play all the time now. I wish i could aford a less pawl . I don't like fender i think there a bit over rated. Gibson Martin washburn i have played all of them and i love all three makers. I have played a fender strat but like i said don't reely like the strat i think the tela caster was the best. Has any one tryed out a Line6 m13 stomp box ?
i'd love more than anything to get a less pall, that's for sure. a guy that I know who is in a local band over here where i'm at has a zack wild less pall with a bulls eye on the thing. pritty damn awsome. just got my fender strat back on yesterday from having it repaired and stuff.
speaking of lps, I've got a les paul for sale if anyone is interested. pm or e mail me for specs etc.
My favorite fenders are the Japanese strats, the american deluxe strats with the noiseless single coils, the srv strat, and, the clapton strat. all very nice, if a bit expensive. I don't bother with the fenders made in korea or china etc. sometimes you can get a nice made in mexico fender, but, it's such a hit and miss affair going down that road. the highway series is pretty good all in all, but, for the money, I'd fork over a bit more for an american special or standard. A fender through a nice fender amp is an amazing combo!
Here's my gear.
Gibson sg, faded, beat the hell out of it with the case. Love it.
Ltd Mh50, orriginal fr, can be a pain to take care of.
Fender 5 string bass
acoustic (not sure what brand). Sounds good tunned low though.
Strat copy, fun to screw around with.
I have a line6 spider 3 150 wat 212, that I'm trying to get rid of. Trouble is noone wants them. I also have a guitar research t64 4x8 half stack, marshall mg 15, and a marshall 30 wat bass amp I got yesterday. My fiance is getting me a dean 7 string for christmas, I figured I'd go for a 7 since it is easyer to find those then a baritone. I love how light the dean is. It's a vendeta. Was looking at a line6 spider valv, but now I think when I get rid of my line6 I'll get the vox nighttrain, 15 wat all tube. Don't know what I want to put it through though. I like it because of it's ability to run as a 7 wat, or a 15 wat amp. I liked the 7 wat sound more, but I don't know how loud it gets yet. Guess I'll wait and see.
Just got my new amp a couple of weeks ago. It's a Black Hart Tube amp, it goes from 7 to 15 wats, and man is it loud. Right now i am running my GNX 3000 through it. I think though that i like the sound of my boss ME 50 better with this amp. I would say if any one is going to get a tube amp and want to save a bit of cash go with one of these Black Hart amps. There grate.
Regarding Guitar rig, we can browse and select banks and patches, but we can't get at the interface. Is that what your saying? Could Guitar Rig be played on a MIDI Keyboard? Or is it exclusively for Guitar as the name implies.
I might get east west colosus and Ra, but don't really have a use for them since they aren't very accessible, and blind friendly.
Guitar rig only works with an audio signal. It has nothing to do with Midi...
Figured I'd update my list of gear...
Main amp:
Peavey 5150 2X12 combo
Crate 1X12 practice amp
Guitars:
Jackson DR7, 7 string
Pedals:
Dunlop 535Q Wah,
Ibanez TX9 tube screamer,
Digitech whammy,
Boss DD20 gigga delay
sorry, I didn't know. I thought that Guitar rig was also MIDI. Guess I made a mistake. Is Superior drummer worth purchassing? Or is it better just to stick with session drummer 3 for now.
Matthewwas Mistaken. Is Superrior drummer worth buyin
superior drummer is awesome. Definetly go for it when you can. and, there are now reasonably priced hsc sets for it too that give you very good access to a ton of parameters in the plug in windows. The only thing as good as superior is bfd, but, bfd 2.x is not accessible.
now it's time for me to update my guitar and bass related lists as well...
guitars:
Tradition G120 hss strat with trem king, (for sale if anyone is interested.)
Furnendez les paul copy with duncan hum buckers
Ovation Adamas 2080 acoustic electric
guitar amp:
h and k switchblade 50w tube 1x12 combo with four channels and on board digital effects.
pedals:
morley steve vai bad horsey 2 wah pedal.
art x11 midi master floor controller for the switchblade combo amp.
bass:
Ibanez oil finished five string bass, I want to say it's an srs505...
bass amp:
gk mb 1x15 200w combo with piezo tweeter.
I've just got to chime in here and say it's nice to see tubes have come back in in full swing. In the 1980s, it was all solid state. I haven't had gear in close to twenty years, and if I ever do again, I've a lot of learning to do I think. But nice to see tubes are now in again.
Nice, warm sound that.
Yeah, the newer hybrid tube amps are really fantastic. Definetly worth looking into if you get back into electric.
Also, I'm selling the les paul I noted above. If anyone is interested, please pm or e mail me. Thanks.
Is IK Multimedia's amplitube accessible?
I have an older version of amplitube LE and it is not accessible. It may be possible to create hsc sets for the various packages, but, I am not aware of anyone who has tried yet. I don't own them so I'm not sure if that is a workable solution.
Thanks for the info. Not planning on getting it or anything since I don't play guitar, just wondering.
Hey does any one know if reason has bin updated. If so has any one tried it, and has the accessibility gotten any better with the new version?
Reason 5 is out, but I think it's still inaccessible, wish it were though cause it's pretty cool.
So, figured I'd update my gear, for anyone who's interested...
Amp: Peavey 5150 combo
Pedals
Crybaby 535Q Wah
Ibanez TX9 tube screamer
Digitech whammy
Boss DD20 giggaDelay
Guitars:
I Have none, because some no good piece of shit stole mine this week... So, I'm a guitarist with out a guitar... It sucks ass...
Wow dude. Sorry you're having to go through that. I had a Taylor stolen a few years ago, they never found the S.O.B that ran off with it either. I'm selling a les paul pretty cheap. If you want details, drop me a pm or an e mail.
Actually, they found the ass hole... So, life's good again. I'm still playing your three hundred dollar schecter Oman 7, seven string, obviously... Hopingg to move up to a nicer ax when I get some cash though... Paying for college is a bitch.
Oh wow! That is pretty rare actually. Usually they don't find the guy or the instrument. Glad that turned out okay then.
Well mock if you must about my outdated knowledge, but it's nice to see Peavey now has some good stuff. The stuff from the 80s used to hum and buzz an awful lot, no matter what you hooked to it.
I really liked Crate's offerings, but I was a keyboardist and part-time bass player - had a fretless Applause which is an Ovation knock-off which I had crystal active pickups put into.
Yeah, not a big fan of crate, My little joke is that it's for peapole who couldn't really afford the equipment... Crate... lol.
I recently heard of a device called the OMG1 which combines two Ipads a little phatty, omnisphere, and a mac mini. There's a contest going on that if you buy a certain moog tribute library for omnisphere make good music with the library and then send it to Spectrasonics, and you might win one. It's not like I want or need one, I'm not even sure if it's accessible, but just writing to let you all know.
I did something similar, built a little city with a hospicle and such, didn't follow the instructions though just built for fun, and it also used some non lego stuff. I have a bongo, a weird harp thingy with about sixteen strings but it is unmelodius and is out of tune. My friend has a djembe but I don't I have a cheap snare bvass, and two toms also. I also have some acasia pods that can be used as maracas, and I also have a lot of harmonica that lots of people have given me but I odn't play them well. One has a button that if pressed moves everything a half step up, since the harmonica is in c major it moves it up to c-sharp major.
Got a peavey 5150 2x12. Thing sounds great. It's heavy as hell though. Payed 425 dollars for it used from guitar center.
yeah, the 5150 sounds great cranked up, but, they are heavy as hell, as you said, and, I found the thing to be quite noisy. but, you get that with most high gain tube amps anyways.
I'm thinking of getting either a soft synth or a pair of decent monitors. The thing is that I use headphones for recording the raw basic tracks, but I haven't really gotten into mixing yet since I'm pretty new to this stuff. The thing is I can either buy the monitors or the soft synth. Monitor wise I was thinking the KRK Rokit g2s, and soft synth wise i was thinking Omnisphere. Which should I buy. I'm leaning more towards Omni since I think I'l survive with my M-audio monitors.
Omnisphere has amazing sounds. However, M audio monitors are not good to mix on. They are not flat nearfields, or even close to flat. So, I'd say upgrade your monitors first. Besides krk, I'd also suggest you look at Mackie.
Cameron,
I'l look into Mackie monitors, it's just that I'm on a budjet, and can only afford the KRK Rokit rp5 g2s.
I just recently bought a Fender VG strat with the roland VG pickup. I don't know why I wanted this thing, but for $750 I can't beat the deal. I also bought a very nice volume pedal and carbon copy delay. Already had a ts9 tube screamer. Also, bought a boss loop pedal, I don't recall the model off hand, but it is the single stomp box model, and I find it so much easier to use than the 2 pedal job I tried out a year ago.
wow, that is awesome! I wanted one of those strats, but, they were way too expensive new, and I haven't seen many around for a reasonable price. How do you find the modeling aspect overall?
I suppose i should update my gear list as well. Lets see. I have currently, A Line 6 Variax 300 and one of the newer JTV 89 variax guitars. Connect to a line6 podX3live with the digital cable so i can save guitar models and altern tunings in the patch along with the amp and effects. Run those out to a pair of Atomic amps Reactor FR full range flat response all tube 50 watt 12" cab with a tweeter. Also still have my ISP technologies Decimator noise reduction pedal, if uplay a igh gain tube amp u want this in your effects loopl. It will kill all the noise and non of your sustain, it will not chop notes off like every other noise gate will. Also still got a Rocktron Black Cat moan wah/overdrive pedal, and recently picked up an older Rocktron guitar exciter. Oh yeah an di stil lgot my Agile Baritone guitar kicking around. As far as baritone guitars go I'd reccomend The Agile, Michael Kelly Low Boy Patriot, or the PRS Mike Mushok model. Those were the favorites out of all the ones i owned .. oh and th eWashburn baritone if u can track one down.
The modeling on the VG is much better than I expected. It's nice when performing nice to say loop a Telecaster tone, and then pop back in with an american strat. I've found with my tube screamer, I can get a close sound to my takamine tan 16c cool tube.
i was looking at those a while ack but the line6 variaxe seem to be more suited to my needs with the alternating sand etc. i should see if i can find a VG guitar used though.
I picked mine up for $750 used, I mean come on, it's hard enough to get an american made strat for that more less a american made with the VG system. The modelings are good, the alternate tunings are great and I used to live in dadgad, so I always brought two guitars when I was playing out. One standard tuning and one DADGAD, now I'm all set in one guitar.
u play any really heavy stuff, wondering how good harmonics are on the VG strat when using alternate tuning
Ya I'm late to the party so here goes.

ahh love the Gallien-Krueger Backline series. I think the back line 210 is the perfect amp for the metal guitarist who likes to drop turn and doesn't have a lot of cash. So there have been a few new additions to my rig. I have a Mack Amps Gem 2G. It's a 4 watt all tube amp that can be dropped down to 0.4 of a watt with the push of a button. Not the most hi gain amp, as you will probably still need an overdrive pedal or active pickups to get into extreme metal territority, but pair it with the right cab and u can get the stacked cranked amp tones with out going deaf. Also recently got a effectrobe tube drive, which is an all tube guitar preamp in pedal form, and a Blue Angel chorus pedal from trinity amplification. Gotta Say, It's a pretty fucking sweet chorus. Recently added a phaser and vibrato under the valco brand as sold by www.myrareguitars.com but haven't put them to the test yet. The tC electronics tone print pedals are next on my list since they got a buy two and get one of their overdrive pedals free promotion going till the end of the year.
I suck compared to all of you. I just have a Fender STRAT custom rapped and a Line 6. I do agree the sound can be quit horrible at times, but it's all my mother can afford. Once I turn 18, I'm gonna go for my record deal.
